Streaming giant Netflix is not one to rest on its laurels, ordering a new anime remake of the high-flying adventure saga, “One Piece“, even before the curtains have closed on the original series. Named “The One Piece“, this exciting venture marks another collaboration between Netflix and WIT Studio, the creative house behind standout animations such as “Attack on Titan” and “Spy X Family“.
Netflix enthused in a statement, “An all-new anime adaptation of the ONE PIECE manga starting from the iconic East Blue saga is coming to Netflix. Titled THE ONE PIECE, the anime series will be produced by the renowned WIT Studio, recognized for their work on hit anime such as SPY x FAMILY and Attack on Titan.”
Building on the Success of Embarking on Uncharted Waters
In a collective statement, the committee behind the project conveyed their enthusiasm for this novel endeavor, adding that the series will not only be “distinct from the TV anime series that has captivated audiences for over 25 years,” but will also offer “a fresh yet familiar experience,” transporting viewers to an awe-inspiring visual universe of Luffy’s voyages.
Drawing inspiration from the manga series of the same name by renowned author Eiichiro Oda, “The One Piece” revolves around the thrilling journey of the Straw Hat Pirates as they navigate treacherous seas and terrains, chasing after the mythical treasure known as “One Piece”, hoping to make their captain, Monkey D. Luffy, the undisputed “King of the Pirates”.
New Sail, Same Wind: Second Series on the Horizon
Propelled by the waves of their recent hit live-action adaptation, Netflix is setting sail for another sequel to the action-packed “One Piece“. The earlier venture not only received a thumbs-up from the critics but also won over the hearts of fans, earning accolades for exceptional performances, stunning visual effects, and its authenticity to the source material.
With the seeds for the second live-action series already sown, co-showrunner Matt Owens furnishes an optimistic update. Even though the writers’ and actors’ strikes delayed progress initially, the scripts for the second season are now shaping under the able hands of their capable writing team.
About the current progress, Owens mentioned, “The writers room is up and running, yes, getting scripts done so that we can get into design work, scheduling, and pre-production… We did start our Season 2 writers room for a little bit before the strike. We didn’t get much further than starting to plan out what the season is going to be and got a couple of outlines done.” He, however, was quick to point out that “it’s still going to take some time”.
Final Chapter Unfolding for Manga Series
Meanwhile, the celebrated manga and anime series, “One Piece“, is advancing towards its grand finale, with its creator Eiichiro Oda spilling the beans last June that the series will take a short hiatus before storming back for its 25th anniversary and grand conclusion.
With an impressive cast including Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar, the “One Piece” live-action series is now available on Netflix.
