“Wednesday” isn’t done with its plot twists. After racking up 50 million views in the first week of season 2’s initial drop, Netflix is gearing up for part 2 on September 3 — and the trailer is already stirring speculation.
Principal Weems is back… sort of
Season 1 left fans convinced Gwendoline Christie’s Principal Weems was gone for good after her murder in the finale. But as showrunner Alfred Gough told Netflix, “Nobody in our world is truly dead dead.” The new footage reveals Weems is indeed still dead — but returns as Wednesday’s spirit guide, doling out advice from beyond the grave. In Nevermore Academy’s universe, that’s practically business as usual.
A new principal with a different agenda
In Weems’ absence, Steve Buscemi’s Barry Dort has stepped in to run Nevermore. His leadership style? Leaning into the school’s outcast image with a flair for commercialization. According to IndieWire’s Ben Travers, Dort could serve as a satire of institutions that happily wave progressive flags for profit but shy away when it risks funding.
Setting up the supernatural clash
With Christie’s ghostly Weems floating back into the picture, the stage is set for intriguing interactions between her and Buscemi’s Dort. Whether they meet through spectral means or some other magical loophole, the dynamic promises a fresh mix of tension and humor.
Part 2 arrives soon

The final four episodes of season 2 drop Wednesday, September 3, on Netflix. Expect more mystery, more Addams Family quips, and at least one spectral mentor.
