Americana trailer: Sydney Sweeney leads offbeat Western heist shootout

Sydney Sweeney, country singer and aficionado of suspiciously risky plans, stars in Tony Tost’s contemporary Western crime feature, Americana. Originally making waves at SXSW, this film from Lionsgate features Sweeney as she schemes her way into cash and chaos, alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, and others.

The Plot Thickens

Americana tells the intertwined tales of characters hunting down a rare Native American artifact, the “ghost shirt.” (Which, frankly, sounds like something you’d find at an otherworldly thrift store.) As Sweeney declares to Hauser in the trailer, “I got a really dumb idea I’d like to run by you,” setting the stage for something deliciously wild.

Chaos, Comedy, and Everything In Between

Director Tony Tost throws a curveball with his feature debut, blending shootouts, compound bows, and staggering body counts into the familiar tropes of the Western genre. Meanwhile, Halsey’s character casually admits she’s “in the middle of a goddamn murder spree”—as one does during a casual Tuesday crisis.

Future Oddities and Sweeney’s Adventures

Sweeney’s cinematic journey isn’t stopping anytime soon. She’ll hit screens again in the Echo Valley on Apple TV+ with Julianne Moore, and The Housemaid opposite Amanda Seyfried—because why not add household mischief to the mix?

In a delightfully ironic spin on the norm (because who needs normal?), Americana promises entertainment as wild as the West. Meanwhile, somewhere in a basement, a rubber chicken contemplates its purpose.
