Marvel’s longest-running Disney+ series, What If…?, is gearing up for its grand finale, and the wait won’t be too long. A new promotional video from Disney+ teases everything coming our way before 2025, and we finally have a date for What If…? Season 3: it’s premiering on December 22. Just in time to add some cosmic what-could-have-been twists to our holiday season.
The details around the release schedule are still kept under wraps, though. Will we binge it with daily episode drops like Season 2, or savor it slowly like Season 1 with a weekly release? Your guess is as good as ours. Either way, we know it’s joining some big names to close out Disney+ for 2024, including Deadpool & Wolverine, which arrives just a month earlier on November 12. The R-rated box office magnet, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has already proven a massive hit, raking in $1.3 billion, so What If…? certainly has some flashy company to round off the year. Critics seem to be on board with What If…? as well—its 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes isn’t too shabby, even if the audience score sits at a solid but less enthusiastic 79%.
And if you’re wondering what else is on Marvel’s upcoming slate, you’re in luck. Disney+ also shared dates and windows for several other projects, starting with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, an animated origin story of Peter Parker in the MCU, set to swing into our screens on January 29. Then we have Daredevil: Born Again, which lands on March 4—though it didn’t come with any new footage at New York Comic-Con, Marvel still knows how to keep us hyped. Fans will also get to dive into Ironheart, starring Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos, on June 24, and Eyes of Wakanda, another Marvel animated series, on August 6.
Not all projects got specific dates, though. Marvel Zombies is expected to shamble onto screens in October 2025, while Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Ben Kingsley, should appear sometime that December. It’s safe to say that Marvel’s got a packed calendar full of superhero antics to keep us all entertained.
What Is ‘What If…?’ About Anyway?
In case you need a refresher, What If…? was Marvel’s first foray into the Multiverse back in 2021, helping kickstart the Multiverse Saga. The show centers on The Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright), an omnipotent figure who peers across alternate realities, showing how key moments in the MCU might have played out differently. Think of it as a kind of twisted mirror—in one Season 1 episode, we see a world where Doctor Strange loses Christine Palmer instead of his hands, sending him down a path that’s even darker (if you can believe it). In another, Ultron actually wins in Avengers: Age of Ultron, nabbing the Infinity Stones before Thanos can even blink and, well, basically taking over the universe.
