Terrifier 3 Scares Up a Box Office Win as ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Collapses with Record Drop

This weekend’s box office delivered a mix of surprises and disappointments. “Terrifier 3” claimed the top spot with a strong $18.3 million debut, a massive success for the unrated slasher film, proving that smaller horror franchises can still draw a crowd with minimal marketing. The third installment in the ultra-violent series exceeded the total earnings of its predecessor “Terrifier 2” in just one weekend, marking a big win for indie horror this Halloween season.

In stark contrast, “Joker: Folie à Deux” faced a brutal second-weekend collapse, dropping a staggering 81% to just $7.1 million. This represents one of the largest second-weekend drops in comic book movie history, raising concerns about the future of DC’s film slate. The film’s domestic total is now projected to struggle to reach $75 million, far below the billion-dollar earnings of the original “Joker”. However, international markets still offer some relief, with the movie earning $113.7 million overseas.

Meanwhile, “The Wild Robot” continued its strong run, securing second place with $13.5 million in its third weekend, bringing its U.S. total to $125 million. This animated hit has proven resilient against the underperformance of other films in the market and is already setting the stage for a potential sequel.

Other notable performances included “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which maintained a decent hold in its sixth weekend with $7.1 million, and “Piece by Piece,” a Lego documentary that managed a respectable $3.8 million.

This weekend’s results highlight the growing divide between smaller genre films finding success and high-budget blockbusters struggling to maintain audience interest.
