Anna Kendrick is set to make her feature directorial debut with the thriller “Woman of the Hour,” which will premiere on Netflix on October 18. The film, written by Ian McDonald, received critical acclaim at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Kendrick not only directs but also stars as Cheryl Bradshaw, an aspiring actress in 1970s Los Angeles who unknowingly becomes involved with a serial killer during an appearance on the popular game show “The Dating Game.”
Daniel Zovatto co-stars as Rodney Alcala, the real-life serial killer who appeared on the show amidst a years-long murder spree across the United States. The film explores the chilling true story of how Bradshaw crossed paths with Alcala, highlighting the dangers that can lurk beneath charming exteriors.
The supporting cast includes Tony Hale, Nicolette Robinson, Pete Holmes, Autumn Best, Kathryn Gallagher, and Kelley Jakle. Producers of the film are Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Anna Kendrick also serving as an executive producer alongside others.
Netflix’s upcoming slate also features titles like Jeremy Saulnier’s action thriller “Rebel Ridge” and Sydney Freeland’s sports drama “Rez Ball,” both of which were showcased at the Toronto Film Festival.
