It’s a tough world out there for women, and Amy Adams is diving headfirst into that reality in the upcoming film Nightbitch, directed by Marielle Heller. In the first trailer released today, Adams takes on the role of a woman who might just be turning into a dog—or at least thinks she is.
Adapted from Rachel Yoder’s 2021 novel, Nightbitch teases a surreal, darkly comedic exploration of motherhood, identity, and the pressures of societal expectations. The trailer shows Adams’ character grappling with the impossibilities of being a woman, from the struggle to maintain an ideal body to the overwhelming demands of motherhood, all while possibly undergoing a strange transformation.
The clip offers glimpses of Adams in various absurd scenarios—eating lunch with her face, digging in the backyard, and growling at other people—all while delivering lines that blend humor with a biting commentary on the female experience. “I am a woman. I am an animal. I am… nightbitch,” Adams declares, in what’s sure to be one of the film’s most memorable moments.
With a soundtrack featuring Miley Cyrus’ “Edge Of Midnight,” the trailer sets the stage for a film that promises to be both a wild ride and a conversation starter. Whether Nightbitch ends up a critical darling or a polarizing piece of cinema remains to be seen, but it’s clear that Adams is fully committed to the role.
