‘Frozen 3’ to Hit Theaters Over Thanksgiving in 2027

The official date was revealed days after franchise creator and head of Walt Disney Animation Studios revealed concept art from the threequel.

Frozen 3 will skate into theaters on Nov. 24, 2027.

Official Date Announcement

The official date came days after Walt Disney Animation’s chief creative officer Jennifer Lee shared the first concept art for Frozen 3 at D23, where she also revealed it would arrive in cinemas sometime in 2027. As previously announced, she confirmed a fourth film is also in the works.

Franchise Success

The Frozen franchise has been a boon for Disney and a Thanksgiving staple; 2013’s Frozen, starring Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, earned $1.28 billion, while Frozen II (2019) brought in $1.45 billion.

Delays and Production

Frozen 3 was originally set to open in 2026, but like many event pics, faced delays due to the pandemic and the strikes. Lee wrote and co-directed the first two films with Chris Buck.

Story and Characters

The Frozen films tell the tale of two royal sisters who are orphaned when their parents, the king and queen of Arendelle. Elsa, voiced by Menzel, is anointed queen, but her dangerous icy powers pose major challenges. Bell voices Anna, her beloved younger sister.

D23 Concept Art

The art shown at D23 featured Elsa riding on a horse, while Anna was on a different horse with Olaf, the wildly popular snowman voiced by Josh Gad.

Additional Announcements

Disney also announced that Pixar’s Hoppers will arrive on March 6, 2026. The feature was revealed at D23 and stars Jon Hamm and Bobby Moynihan in a movie about a beaver and a human who exchange bodies. The studios also reaffirmed the new title of James Cameron’s upcoming 20th Century movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which hits theaters Dec. 19, 2025.
