Live-Action Stitch Revealed: Cute and Fluffy, But One Concern

It’s official. Experiment 626 is set to regenerate in a live-action Hawaii next summer as one of the latest upcoming Disney remakes. The next version of the beloved blue alien made his first appearance at Friday night’s huge Disney Entertainment Showcase at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Fans (including myself) are happily not repulsed one bit by the live-action Stitch reveal, but that doesn’t mean we’re all in on the Lilo & Stitch movie.

  • Mixed reactions from fans on social media.

Plot Beats

The live-action Lilo & Stitch movie has been in development since 2018. Walt Disney Studios finally shared the first official look at Stitch, stating that the movie will be released in Summer 2025. Fans can check out the Instagram announcement.

Cast and Crew

The original Lilo & Stitch director had expressed some concerns about the transition from 2D to 3D. The studio seems to have addressed those worries with a design that retains Stitch’s charm and personality.

Buzz and Highlights

Here’s what fans are saying about the reveal:

  • “WAIT HE LOOKS ADORABLE” @minel_jimenez
  • “pleasantly surprised he looks good!” @ghoulish.vic
  • “THANK YOU FOR MAKING HIM LOOK RIGHT.” @starrywisp

While many applaud Stitch’s design, some are skeptical about Disney’s trend of live-action remakes:

  • “Disney seriously needs to stop ruining the classics with live-action remakes that no one asked for. They have ALL been bad.” @talliwyler101
  • “When will Disney realize that these live-action remakes don’t work?” @josh_davenport961
  • “let’s just delete this and act like it never happened” @elijah1927

Production Notes

Disney has had mixed success with live-action remakes, from massive hits like The Lion King and Aladdin to more lukewarm receptions such as The Little Mermaid.

While the CG Stitch looks promising, the transition from the original’s 2D animation to live-action remains a major concern. Fans will need to await the release to truly judge the upcoming Lilo & Stitch movie and see how it matches up to its beloved original.
