Joker: Folie à Deux Trailer Unleashes Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn

Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix are teaming up again for another adventure featuring Gotham’s clown prince of crime, and we now have our second look at it. The official trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux has been released, and it gives us a good look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn teaming up with Phoenix’s Joker.

Like the first Joker 2 teaser, it confirms the film being a “jukebox musical.” The trailer confirms that the sequel takes place two years after the events of the first film, with Arthur Fleck’s trial being a highlight in Gotham.

Following Arthur’s incarceration, he meets Gaga’s Harley Quinn, a fan of the Joker. Together, they plot an escape from Arkham, and as the trailer shows, garner the attention and love of Gotham residents. At one point, the dynamic duo even host a show on national TV, while Arthur is seen addressing a court at what appears to be his own trial.

The trailer is set to a new cover of Frank Sinatra’s “When You’re Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You),” sung by Phoenix’s Joker.

The title of the film translates to “folly for two” in French. It refers to a shared psychosis between two people—an apt title for a film featuring two of Gotham’s most mentally unstable characters.

Here is the official synopsis for the film:

“Joker: Folie À Deux” finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that’s always been inside him.

The film is directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay written by him and Scott Silver. Hildur Guðnadóttir, who won an Academy Award for her original score, is returning to compose music for the sequel. The film takes place in an Elseworlds universe that is separate from James Gunn’s DCU.

Joker: Folie à Deux releases on October 4, 2024.
