A Disneyland employee tragically lost her life following a golf cart accident at the theme park.
At approximately 11:30 AM on June 5, local Anaheim Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to a restricted area of Disneyland after a golf cart collision occurred out of guests’ view. According to Anaheim Police spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan McClintock, the employee had fallen from a moving golf cart and sustained a head injury. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and passed away due to her injuries two days later, on June 7.

The employee was identified as Bonnye Mavis Lear, a 60-year-old Club 33 Membership Manager. The Anaheim Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,” Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock stated. “At this time, we are focused on supporting her family and our cast members through this tragic event and making sure they have the resources they need.”

Friends and family paid tribute to Lear on social media, describing her as exceptionally kind. According to Rae Delgado, a Disney California Adventure cast member, Lear suffered a fractured skull and brain swelling, which led to her passing. Delgado shared additional details, stating:
“Bonnye was traveling on a rear-facing seat of a golf cart along with three passengers behind Critter Country. The driver was going at least 20 mph when the golf cart hit a bump or dip in the road, causing Bonnye to fall. She grabbed for the handrail, which gave way, resulting in her ejection from the vehicle.”

Delgado also highlighted that Lear deserves justice and criticized Disneyland management for reportedly instructing cast members to stay silent about the circumstances of Lear’s death.
“Managers are telling CMs not to speak about the circumstances of Bonnye’s death to others,” she wrote. “They’re asking for silence. They want it to be forgotten.”
