Netflix is gearing up to release an anime adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, featuring the original cast from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The ensemble includes Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Aubrey Plaza, Satya Bhabha, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Jason Schwartzman, Alison Pill, Ellen Wong, and others, with additional cast members set to be revealed at a later date.
The series will be co-written, executive produced, and managed by Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, working in tandem with BenDavid Grabinski. Edgar Wright, the director of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is also on board as an executive producer.
In a statement, Wright expressed that the original film was among the most gratifying and memorable accomplishments in his career. He went on to say, “Throughout the years since its 2010 debut, we’ve participated in Q&As, retrospectives, and charity readings, but there hasn’t been an opportunity to reunite the entire cast for a new project—until now. Bryan Lee O’Malley and writer BenDavid Grabinski have crafted an anime rendition of ‘Scott Pilgrim’ that not only broadens the universe but also offers something fresh. Just wait and see. I’m delighted to announce that I’ve managed to persuade the entire original cast to reprise their roles in this incredible new journey. You’re in for a treat.”
The animation will be brought to life by Science SARU, while Anamanaguchi, the composers of the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World video game music, will collaborate with Joseph Trapanese to create the show’s score.
