The show kicked off with an engaging dialogue by Mikey Day, reprising his role as Biden. Referring to Mike Johnson, the House Speaker, who displayed visible signs of disagreement during Biden’s federal address, Day said, “Now tonight, I’m also gonna be talking about my predecessor, mainly because every time I say predecessor, Mike Johnson shakes his head like he just accidentally caught 30 seconds of the show Euphoria.”
In addition to this, Day’s Biden referred to Katie Britt’s highly criticized online response to his speech. Day’s Biden humorously mentioned, “But I saw a glimpse of the Republican senator’s response to my speech and I think she’s going to help me more than anything else I can say.”
Scarlett Johansson Surprises with Katie Britt’s Depiction
The high-profile actor, Scarlett Johansson, made a surprise appearance portraying Alabama Senator Katie Britt. Utilising the monologue space Johansson’s Britt highlighted her role as more than just a senator, doubling as a wife, a mother and being a vocal critic considering the adversities of the current times.
Reacting to Britt’s original speech, Johansson’s character stated, “But tonight I’ll be auditioning for the part of ‘Scary Mom.’ I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This Country is Hell.’ You see, I’m not just a senator, I’m a wife, a mother and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot, worried about the future of our children.”
Part of the satire revolved around the fact Britt used a sex trafficking case to criticize Biden’s border policies. However, the sex trafficking case in question happened years earlier, during the presidency of George W. Bush, and the victim was never trafficked across the border.
The Comeback of Josh Brolin
The episode had Josh Brolin returning to host for the third time, a testament to his charm and appeal. Broadway kingpin Ariana Grande was the musical guest. Towards the end of his monologue, Brolin drew parallels with his hosting job and his cold plunges. He said, “You know, I’ve been doing cold plunges for 20 years and the only thing that I can compare this show to is that. Hosting is like jumping into an ice bath. It’s scary, it’s exhilarating, your penis is in your stomach, there’s just no way to prepare for it.”
